Why Are Some People Bystanders and Others Heroes?
Level: Intermediate – High Intermediate
Many times in the news we read about someone in need, even calling out for help, yet no one comes to help them. We call this the bystander effect; people stand by and watch, but do nothing. The opposite of the bystander effect is the hero, someone who risks life to save someone else.
In this assignment, your will research and examine the bystander effect and the hero. Then in a five-paragraph Compare and Contrast essay, discuss why some people risk life to help those in need, and why other people stand by and do nothing.
